Long Absence Saturday, May 17 2008

Hmm… maybe I should revive this thing. However, the chances that anyone reads it are low, but that’s never stopped me before :)
I have a few projects in the works, from my once-NaNo The Twilit Bridge to my ongoing Pre-Calculus and Discrete Mathematics book. Adding to this is a return to my desire to learn Japanese, leading to me (this summer) digging out old Shōnen Jump magazines for their vocab pages, and reading way too much on Wikipedia :P
Altogether, I’m flying apart at the edges, but that’s okay! I’ve only got two more weeks of school :D

NaNoWriMo Leadup Sunday, Oct 7 2007

I guess I’ll post parts of my journey towards 50K words here, too. I have at this point finished prepping the "themes" of my story, as well as an incredibly short character list, and also a basic plot summary that follows most of the main characters. I’m just beginning to outline my various plot developments, starting with the short (10 paragraphs) introduction, which explains the theme and some detail of the story. Working title ATM: A Bridge and a Sword.

NaNoWriMo Monday, Oct 1 2007

So, starting today, (theoretically) the Sign-ups begin for NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month. I’m going to be off (probably) for all of November, as I sprint to the 50K+ word count. Of course, you have all the time in the world to prepare, but only one month to write. This gives you the incentive to really concentrate and get it done.

I may post an update occasionally on my progress.

More informaton can be found at the NaNoWriMo Homepage.

(Hope the servers don’t crash anytime soon…)

KRZR Thursday, Sep 27 2007

KRZR Km1

I got a KRZR K1m on Saturday, and I’m really happy with it. It plays music, it takes photos, and I’m on an unlimited messaging plan! The phone is great, and also, it has an awesome reflective front (I can use it like a red-tinted mirror!) Also, the media buttons on the front of the phone are very nice, and make it easy to listen to music on it. The only problem is that I cannot connect to the phone via Linux; Motorola has only released a USB driver for Windows.

RSS Monday, Sep 24 2007

‘Tis a wonderful thing, RSS. I love being able to open one program and get an instant feed from anywhere on the web. The best part is when others have combined blogs in a syndication, so everything comes from one source. The worst part, however, is when there is nothing to read. So, since the storms are getting rather harsh, I’ll leave this at that.

Vectors… Tuesday, Sep 18 2007

Math has become more interesting recently, with the introduction of vectors and their various ways they can be altered. Meanwhile, I am left with some very ugly math, even when typeset with TeX. I guess this is unavoidable, but still, I find it rather depressing.

Facebook Sunday, Sep 16 2007

Hmm… did Facebook change their rendering recently? For a long time the close features on a window wouldn’t work in Konqueror, also every time someone sent a request, it wouldn’t update. I wonder what changed…

Compiz-Fusion!!! Saturday, Sep 15 2007

There’s a website for Compiz Fusion, now, Link! and a wiki for plugins, Link! that outlines the many things it can do.

Krita! Saturday, Sep 15 2007

I was messing around with Krita, learning the ropes, so I created a background, much in the style of Mac OS X, with the dynamic lines… I’m not that good at it yet, but I can see all sorts of uses for filters and layers…

Games Friday, Sep 14 2007

I play games with some friends, hosted at a house down my street, and we often have an interesting mix of players. The games are from a company called Rio Grande Games, and are German-style board games, with simple rules and many interesting components. Last night we played a game called Carcassonne, which is about a region in France. The games are fun, and often intriguing, while at the same time, taxing our logic and problem-solving. I would highly reccommend playing some of these games, especially if you know someone with a collection.
